"We are hummingbirds who've lost the plot and we will not move" is absolutely fantastic as a line. Ask yourself the question... "What are human beings supposed to do?" we have no instruction manual... or plot... and we're afraid to go one way or the other. It's like if someone stuck you in the middle of a soccer game and didn't tell you which goal you were defending and which goal you were attacking. Wouldn't you be afraid to go one way or the other in fear of scoring in the wrong goal?

Sometimes all I really want to feel is love
Sometimes I'm angry that I feel so angry
Sometimes my feelings get in the way
Of what I really feel I needed to say

[ mood | jubilant ]

Did anyone else see Modest Mouse at Olympic Island last night? It was a very long day but well worth the wait to see Modest Mouse that close. It was a really great show all around!

Recap from May 30th Performance @ Shrine Auditorium, Billings, MT [31 May 2005|06:37pm]

Wow. That will certainly be one of the highlights of my summer.

Last night, at the Shrine Auditorium, Modest Mouse performed with Camper van Beethoven opening. Doors opened twenty minutes earlier than expected (not that I'm complaining), so we got to hang around, looked around for other people we knew, and all that pre-show stuff. After the hour or so wait, Camper van Beethoven performed an hour-long selection of their songs. I had never listened to this band before, so it was a pretty cool experience to hear their songs for the first time. The highlights of the opening act included the video screen behind the band (which displayed a variety of images, ranging from Kim Jong Il to flowers to aliens to atomic explosions to women getting mauled by bears in their own homes) and the violinist, who absolutely rocked the house.

After a "brief" intermission, Modest Mouse finally took the stage. They kicked off the show with "Dramamine", the first track on their first album. I don't remember the entire setlist, but it included such favorites as "Paper Thin Walls" (which was performed twice in a row because they stopped at the wrong spot), "Float On", "Ocean Breathes Salty", "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes", "Interstate 8", "Wild Packs of Family Dogs", "The View", "Satin in a Coffin", "Bukowski", "Black Cadillacs", and "This Devil's Workday" (which was vastly different from the album version, as they didn't have a brass section to back them up). Highlights included:

1. At least 40 crowd surfers being thrown out
2. Issac Brock screaming "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!" during "The View"
3. A crazed fangirl, who was kicked offstage for crowd surfing, running from stage right to stage left, kissing Issac Brock, then jumping back into the audience (according to billingsgazette.com, she also accidentally unplugged his guitar during her mad dash)
4. Everyone in the audience singing along to "Float On"

After the main set and a 10 or so minute break, the band came back onstage for an encore. To the best of my memory, the encore set included "The World At Large" (which had to be started twice because Issac screwed up the beginning), "Custom Concern", and "Bury Me With It".

I wish I could've gotten some pictures for you guys, but camera's were supposedly not allowed in the auditorium.

Is anyone going to see Tiger Army and the Unseen on tour? The Unseen's new album is going to be great…and TA? They always put on an amazing show! Anyone else seen them live? I got my tickets early, so I'm not sure if they are sold out…but here is the link for tour dates: http://www.epitaph.com/toursevents/index.php?bid=78
